4. Drink Up it’s Expensive!
Paying 5 US dollars for bottled water, yes its no joke but go to any German restaurant and you will be paying anywhere from 2 to 7 Euros (you do the currency exchange) for a large bottle of water. (They even have the exact liter amount you will be getting .20 l to .75 l. Translation- .20l is around 1 cup! Better order the larger). Bad for water drinkers, good for beer drinkers. Beer costs less than water in Germany and God forbid you ask them for tap water, they will look at you glaring (thinking cheapskate) say no or even say the establishment does not provide tap water. A big no-no in Germany! You can only get it if you order another drink like coffee or espresso and give them their 3-4 Euros first! We were even told by a very frugal Indian couple running an Indian restaurant in Baden-Baden that the tap water in Baden-Baden had such hard water that it was dangerous to drink. Hmm, that’s a good one, it convinced us.
