5. Pay to Pee
Paying 70-80 US cents (depending on the conversion rate) to use public (well we shouldn’t call it that!) private bathrooms or WC in Europe. Yes, after drinking all that beer or expensive water you will definitely need to go to the bathroom and there will only be pay bathrooms, sometimes with a nice Turkish individual with a plate full of Euros and change, who conveniently put a sign on the table that is understandable in every language, “ .50 cents” blah blah blah German, next to them. Scrounge up your change, cause you’re going to have to pay for your release of urine or other unmentionables. Sometimes, the bathroom guard, um attendant is replaced by automatic turnstiles (Servways company in Germany) that you place 50 Euro Cents into a machine which allows access to the bathrooms. Where you will be pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness, ample toilet paper and sometimes even a toilet seat cleaner that rotates after you flush. Now, trade off? Pay for clean toilets? NO!!! I’m a girl and I have to go a lot!! A long driving trip can add up for a girl! But always be prepared for different bathrooms, you may need your own paper, and paper towels are generally not provided!
