13. Exorbitant prices
Everything costs more here, I don’t care what people say it’s expensive in Germany, why do you think Germans drive across the borders to France and Austria to fill their gas tanks?? Just for fun here’s a little list of prices

-Gas $8 USD a gallon (did you get that?!! 8 dollars a gallon!), average (its done in liters, do the math to gallons and there u go..)
-Heating and Electricity $1500 Euros/year for a small apartment average
-1 Pair of Designer Jeans 200 Euros/300 USD (there are NO discount stores here, NO Marshalls, Loehman’s, Ross, Costco or Target!) only FULL RETAIL PRICES than add in the 30% exchange rate
-1 Package Duncan Hines Cake Mix $6 euros/(9 USD)
-Dinner for two at a Korean Restaurant incl. drinks $60 Euros/85 USD that’s one beer and one bottle water, nothing more! You save on the tip here , which is standard minimal to 10% here but gosh darnit it’s hard not to tip them, when you’re used to tipping 15-20% in US!
-1 Loreal Lipstick $10 Euros/14 USD which retails for 6 USD at Target
-1 2009 BMW 335 conv approx $60-70,000 Euros/$80-95k USD compared to approx $50,000 in the States. But get ready to pay for leather, nav, xenon, auto, seat heater and every option, in the states its pretty loaded in Germany you’re going to pay for it!
-1 stupid Ed Hardy Hat $75 Euros/110 USD very big here, they’re about a year behind in trends, I think you can pick one up for $20USD in the States and be ridiculed for wearing one.
-1 gallon of Kimchee (for my Korean friends) is $36 Euros/55 USD, compared to $10 USD and its way tastier and fresher in the States!!!
-1 Bottled Water at a Restaurant $2.50-7.50 Euros v.s. price of Beer $2 Euros
-hey but there’s free healthcare right??? Which leads me to…

  1. Free healthcare? Where?! I've been looking for it, but since I moved here I've been paying exorbitant premiums for my "public" choice healthcare.
Great blog btw! Really helps me seeing that I'm not alone with my feelings about this place :)
